HARDWARE SUPPORT

F1 Computer Services supports hardware – however, it recent years parts and computers are so cheap that it is often easier to replace a whole computer rather than fix it. The computer industry is strange in that the devices get smaller, faster AND cheaper minute by minute. F1 makes several trips to recycling depot per month with old computer-related parts

F1’s most common hardware work is;

  • Dust removal – Don’t keep your computer on the floor

  • Fan replacement

  • Power supply replacement

  • Hard Drive upgrades

  • Adding extra video cards for multiple monitor situations

BACKUPS

F1 is committed to performing and verifying backups consistently. To illustrate this commitment, a new client recently hired F1 to assess their current operations. During the assessment, when asked about their backups, F1 was shown a tape cassette that was still in the server's tape drive. The tape had a piece of tape dangling from it, indicating it was broken, with the rest of the tape wound inside the drive. Notably, no one had checked the tape in two years. This is particularly concerning for a dental office that operates with a paperless system. If the server had failed, they wouldn't have been able to access X-rays, track incoming patients, or even notify clients to cancel their appointments.

To ensure a reliable backup, it must meet the following criteria:
- Be **FULL**
- Be **OFFSITE**
- Be **INCREMENTAL for 30 days**
- Have a **test restore** performed every six months

F1 has developed its own backup systems that are NOT proprietary. Some backup systems require their unique software for recovery, making it impossible to restore data without that software.

Backups can be stored on HDD USB drives (two of them – one onsite and one offsite). Additionally, backups can be encrypted using TrueCrypt. Cloud backups are also an option, though it's crucial to pay close attention to what is being backed up and the timing of those backups.
